Various Types of Green Tea Extract

There are various types of green tea extracts based on the extraction methods;

  • Strong infusions to maintain strong flavors of the tea
  • Soft extract – combination of strong infusion and concentration leaving 20-25% of catechin content as the end result.
  • Dry extract – first use strong infusion to make 40-50% solids with catechin content of at least 25% then dehydrate the tea and make it into powder.
  • Partly purified extracts – this technique include purification process, solvent extraction and membrane extraction and separation. This method of extraction is used for making high potency supplement as it will be able to acquire higher content of tea catechin (more than 40% of ECGC).

The type of green tea extract used in weight loss supplements is the last one; partly purified extract. The reason for that is that this way you can lower the amount of caffeine and extracting higher dosage of the good stuff from it; the ECGC. Since it does take at least 40% of ECGC per 250 mg of green tea in diet pills for the weight loss purpose, this type of extraction is best.
